A person who has applied for child benefit may receive a letter asking them to provide evidence to show that they are eligible to receive the benefit. The letter will set out the evidence that is required. It may also include a form to be completed.

Where a request for evidence is made, this must be provided within 14 days of the receipt of the letter. If the evidence is not provided within this time frame, HMRC will make a decision as to the claimant’s entitlement to child benefit based on the evidence that they hold.

The evidence can be submitted online using the service available on the gov website (www.gov.uk/guidance/submit-evidence-to-support-your-child-benefit-application).
