Clients not currently within Self Assessment who had a new source of income in 2024/25, such as income from self-employment or rental income, should register for Self Assessment by 5 October 2025. In particular, HMRC are urging anyone who made more than £1,000 from a ‘side hustle’ in 2024/25 to check whether they need to register for Self Assessment. Clients can visit taxhelpforhustles.campaign.gov.uk to find out how the tax rules apply to side hustles.
Comment: It is important to note that there are no special tax rules for side hustles, such as selling goods on Vinted, eBay or similar sites; normal tax rules apply.
